2020-2021 Back to School Family Orientation-9/3/2020

September 3, 2020

Clackamas Middle College Students and Parents,

The focus of this letter is to fill families in on the opportunities at Clackamas Middle College through Comprehensive Distance Learning.  These opportunities along with important information pertaining to the education of your daughter/son will be covered in our first virtual family orientation throughout the week of September 8th-11th.  This virtual orientation is important to ensure that students, families, and CMC staff: are familiar with the tools and resources used during Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), build community and connection, and build confidence and a culture of support and partnership

We are inviting families and students to attend the family virtual orientation from Tuesday, September 8th- Friday, September 11th from 1:00pm-2:30pm each day.  Please attend with your daughter/son using one computing device per family. This is necessary because there is a limit to the number of devices that can connect to the family virtual orientation site at one time.  Also, to enter the orientation site, please sign into your daughter’s/son’s North Clackamas (Google) email account. We will also record and post each session of the family virtual orientation to our website in case families cannot attend during the listed days/times.

Each day the themes for the family virtual orientation will change based on the feedback we received from spring and summer.  The themes for the family virtual orientation are listed below:

    • Day 1- Welcome to Clackamas Middle College (CMC)
      • Tuesday, September 8th- 1:00pm-2:30pm
    • Day 2- CMC Health and Wellness/Other Supports (academic and social)
      • Wednesday, September 9th- 1:00pm-2:30pm
    • Day 3- CMC College and Career Awareness
      • Thursday, September 10th- 1:00pm-2:30pm
    • Day 4- CMC Comprehensive Distance Learning Schedule
      • September 10th- 1:00pm-2:30pm

The format of the family virtual orientation will be modeled through Google Classroom and Google Meets (Google’s version of Zoom) in order to give families a view of what to expect when their daughter/son begins school at Clackamas Middle College.  Each day will also include a question and answer session.

In order to participate in the family virtual orientation for each day, follow the directions below:

As I mentioned earlier, we will record these daily orientations for those that can’t attend during the listed days/times.  Also, because this is a new process, I anticipate there will be some glitches.  If, for some reason, you can’t connect or attend (due to technology or other issues), we will make sure to send you the video of the session you may have missed.

Patience and flexibility are the themes for the year, as we are all in this together.  This first week back for staff has been busy, yet productive in many ways.  The one constant theme among our staff is the excitement and anticipation to work with our new and returning students and families!  Together, we will ensure a successful school year through Comprehensive Distance Learning for each of our students.

Take care, stay safe, and we look forward to meeting you next week!

Respectfully,

Brian Sien, Ed.D.

Principal
